Kuredu Island Resort accommodation - please help!

Hi!

I%26#39;m looking into booking 2 weeks at the above resort in November 2009 and have been offered a really good deal for an all inclusive package staying in a garden bungalow.

Here are my questions:

1. It says on www.kuredu.com that the garden bungalows were being renovated in summer 2008 - has anyone been since this took place and can confirm they are worth staying in? (I%26#39;ve read some really terrible reviews on the GB%26#39;s and it%26#39;s really put me off, but if they%26#39;re now up to stratch, I%26#39;ll be happy).

2. Is it worth the £800 upgrade from a garden bungalow to a beach villa?

3. Is it true that if you stay in a beach villa, you have access to all the other restaurants as well as your allocated restaurant?

I don%26#39;t mind paying the upgrade if it%26#39;s going to make our holiday more enjoyable and make a difference. This is our first time to the Maldives and are both in our mid-20%26#39;s, looking to bask in the sun, eat plenty and drink plenty. We%26#39;ll also do some day trips i.e. fishing, snorkelling, diving, sunset cruises, island hopping etc, so:

4) Would it be more sensible to stay in garden bungalow and use the potential upgrade money on the trips we want to do?

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hi there

I think your idea of saving the upgrade money for trips etc is sound.

Although the villas are bigger and in better locations (on the beach as opposed to set back from it)if I were your age I would save the £800 and go for the bungalow option.

Can%26#39;t comment on ';renovations'; but a whole section of the Eastern middle of the island was under construction (Nov 2008) for what we were told were to be ';Family rooms';

Some of the garden bungalows are close to this work,so if the work is still going on next year try %26amp; get a bungalow towards the Western (Sangu) end!!!!!

In fact, try %26amp; get one anyway-they are in better positions.(Though they may class these as Beach bungalows %26amp; you would have to assess any price hike)

No matter what accomodation you book you are allocated a specific restaurant ,you have to pre book if you wish to use another one ,even if you book top of the range accomodation.

Bungalow guests are allocated the Bonthi restaurant, which is in the middle of the resort and closest to the evening entertainment etc.

I don%26#39;t know if you can use the other restaurants when staying in bungalows but you would certainly be restricted as to which bars you can use----you would have to pay for your drinks if you went to the ';O'; bar for instance.

To sum up-as youngsters I don%26#39;t think you would find the restaurant/bar restrictions too onerous ,as those you would have access to are in the middle of everything.

Any other questions-please ask.

Thanks for your prompt response BWSW, it%26#39;s much appreciated.

I have actually been offered a beach bungalow for only a small extra charge (nowhere near £800):

1) Do you think this would be a better option as you said they%26#39;re in a better position?

2) Do any of the beach bungalows have a sea view?

3) If so, do you have any idea as to the numbers of these bungalows? It states on their website that these too were refurbished in summer 2008.

Thanks again in advance for any advice and suggestions.

Hi Batfink

We went last year and i would defo go for the beach villa rather than the bungalow. The villas were much nicer and on a better part of the island. One thing to remember is that you can usually upgrade in resort for much less than £800. We upgraded when we got there from a beach villa to a jacuzi villa for $800. You also get to use the Sangu bar and dining area which was much nicer in our humble opinion. If you google Kuredu you will get a better idea of villa numbers.

Hi Batfink

If you are happy with the price then the beach bungalow is a better choice.

I have a map/information sheet that they give out when you arrive %26amp; on it they call all the bungalows Beach bungalows. They run from #346 at the Eastern end to #475 at the Western (Sangu )end.

The lower numbers are the garden bungalows,as they are set well back from the beach behind the O beach villas, and in all honesty resemble an upmarket shanty town.

The highest numbers, whilst being more or less on the beach, have restricted views because the Sangu water villas are directly in front of them.

So,you need something in the middle ,probably about #420 --but this is a guess as I can%26#39;t recall specific numbers.

Kibrisjason is quite right that the beach villas (not the O beach villas)are on the ';better'; side of the island,in that the beach is better, though some people have complained that you get more noise on that side (Sth) because it%26#39;s where the jetty is.

You can please some of the people all of the time-etc etc!!

I know this is all confusing-the whole system seems designed to cause it because if you upgrade your accomodation you automatically upgrade your given restaurant/bar.

You really need to decide if staying in better accomodation and eating in a better restaurant is worth the price they are asking %26amp; then deciding.

Lastly--sorry if this posts twice as I was half way through my reply when my PC crashed.

Regards

BWSW

Hi when we went we booked a beach villa and was placed in a new O villa I was gutted to say the least ! And there was NO way we could move !

My self having been i would choose a Beach villa over any other accomadation on the island !

You can see the sea planes land your a short walk to the pool or restraunts !

They have the nicest beach and the nicest views and if you get the side near the sand split the most amazing sunsett views

Have you considerd the Beach Bungalows they have a lovely veiw and location too !

I would stay in one of them for the views too Even though they are not has nice has o.villas they do have a beautiful spot if you get a sea view

I spent the whole holliday cursing them for putting us in the O.villas. Beach villas do have the perfect location i thought . I hope it hellps

Some of the beach bungalows had sea views; some dont, and some overlook the water villas. The ones with the sea views, but just before the water villas are in a great spot.

The garden villas are behind the O villas. No sea view at all. Most of the O Villas had a sea view (again the higher numbers) but the ones closest to the O restaurant had large bushes and palms completely obscuring their view. I would have hated being there.

We were in the O Villa that had an excellent sea view and every morning we could watch the waves, and sometimes, large pods of dolphins would swim past the villa at sunrise (7am). Brilliant. And of course, the resident tiny sheef sharks and the large pools of tiny fish they would chase. And the usual trigger fish and ray.

We requested O Villa as we didnt want to be bothered with the noise of the seaplane first thing in the morning. That side was extremely windy when we were there in January.

The renovations - they have updated the bathrooms and put in a nicer bed. Thet do seem to look better inside.
