summer island, meeru, kuredu???

Hi I am currently looking at these 3 islands for our upcoming anniversary holiday in April. I know they are all quite different and would like some advice on the best value for money. Prices i have had for each adult is...meeru £1599 superior room, kuredu beach bungalow £1599 and summer island standard room £1140.

I have previously stayed at meedhupparu (2006) and am looking for something similar roomwise, beach bungalow.

hubby likes to snorkel, i like to do a bit of snorkelling, but not enough to warrant buying own fins etc and so equipment hire availability would be a bonus for myself.

of the three can anyone help with which is the best value, taking into consideration the above...

Many Thanks in advance,

Shelley.

summer island, meeru, kuredu???

Hi Shelly,

AS you can see by the costings, Summer island is a budget island. Meeru is far better than Meed, Not been to Kuredu but have researched and know that the beaches / sand, in places is filled with coral shards, snorkeling on Meeru is not the best but should accomodate your needs, all the resorts have dive schools and therefore snorkel hire is available, however i would recomend getting your own snorkel amd mask, for hygine reasons also comfort and fit. Kuredu has its own web site/ forum and that may help, if its down to cost summer will be the one.

summer island, meeru, kuredu???

Hi Shelley

I%26#39;ve been to Meeru. Didn%26#39;t like it as an island. It was far too big. Snorkelling is poor from the shore and doesn%26#39;t really improve that much when you get to the house reef, which is a boat ride away. Dive school was very professional and hired out snorkels, masks etc and made sure they fit you properly.

When I was there (Nov 2007) Meeru was also suffering from a chronic overbooking problem. Haven%26#39;t heard if this is still the situation.

Hope this helps a bit.

hi Rumps,

Thanks for the reply, I personally think i am drawn to meeru, and it seems the price i have been given is an excellent one compared to other tour operators. hubby would say cheapest...as we have hol to florida booked with the kids in september and we are adding a sneaky one in before i go back to work when maternity leave finishes.

Do you know what a superior room is on meeru?? I have tried searching but only seem to find std rooms or land villas. Somewhere indicated that a superior room is a land villa, do you know if this is correct?

we do have own mask and snorkels...which we bought before we visited meed. but dont have fins...have always hired them if they are needed.

thanks again,

shelley.

Hi Shelley

This link will take you to the Meeru website:

I think that Superior Villas are the Beach Villas. These are mainly located down the south east side of the island. There is also a map on the website.

I have just returned from Summer Island. It is not somewhere I would return to and I would be very doubtful about recommending it to anyone.

If you go, you must have a water bungalow. The others are squashed up together, some have concrete wall in front of them and are so basic.

Food was very poor. Snorkelling not too bad, you could take a boat twice a day to a nearby reef, if the boat was not broken down.

Do have your own mask and snorkel and you do need fins because of the currents.

Have a good holiday!
