Baros vs Anantara

Does anyone know how these two resorts compare?

If anyone can sum up the pros and cons for each i would be hugely grateful

Baros vs Anantara

I am reluctant to comment on this question as I have never been to Anantara.

I will give you some paint by numbers feedback on your question and hopefully others will jump on here with more personal experience with Anantara.

If you have already seen some of this info please disregard (I never know how much people know when they ask questions).

First here is an older photo of Anantara:

Now a photo of Baros:

From a purely aesthetic standpoint it would seem to me that Baros is the clear choice. It offers more of the desert island kind of feeling that I would want in the Maldives. As you can see from the photo Anantara is surrounded by other islands. Baros actually offers a house reef while Anantara has a very shallow lagoon on one side and no real reef or coral blocks on the other.

Here are a couple of links of photos for the two resorts:

In case you have never used this site you simply click on the first thumbnail photo from each link which will expand the photo and then click on the picture to advance to the next one. Draw your own conclusions from the pictures. Technically I believe that Anantara has a higher ';star'; rating than Baros but these rankings are subjective at best. I only mention this because I assume you are asking the question in order to make a decision where you want to ask your travel agent to send you since you cant go to Velassaru. So if Anantara is rated 5 * and Baros is 4 * that might have some bearing on your choice.

Personally I would pick Baros.

Baros vs Anantara

depends what you are looking for .. i also have not been to anantara but here is why i wouldn%26#39;t book it , even though the rooms look great and i am sure its a wonderful resort:

anantara has no snorkeling to speak of and even if you have never snorkeled and hadn%26#39;t really planned on it - i do believe that the world under the surface is so incredibly stunning that once you see a glimpse of it, you would be sucked in. it would be sad to close that opportunity and limit yourself to above water.

having said that .. anatara offers boat snorkeling of course .. but there is just nothing like walking out of your willa and start snorkeling only with your loved one for company and whenever you fancy doing so. also the housereef once you get to it is said to be less than great and the lagoon almost devoid of life.

the watervillas are reported to be close together with the decks not being private - also a big minus for me

also, like Skibum says .. anantara is surrounded by 2 other resort islands and a service island. the dive center / boat is even kept on another island .. which means to me that the ';far away island feeling'; is lacking and certain infrastructure is inconvenient to reach , since you have to ask for a boat every time.

but again....all the things that bug me are completely subjective and there are lots of people who utterly enjoyed anantara . depending on your priorities , this could be a great resort for you.

now baros .. one side of it also has a view of male in the distance , which i find to be a negative . but overall , i%26#39;d prefer Baros if my choice was between those two resorts only.

thank you both for your replies. Anantara didn%26#39;t seem quite right and unfortunately there wasn%26#39;t availability at Baros. I%26#39;m now staying at Coco Palm Bodu Hithi - so I hope that is equally nice.

wonderful choice SC .. you will love it
