Club Faru

Read a few messages regarding which side of island is best, was wondering if there were any more tips on this subject. Which side is windiest, which is hottest, which has best views, which is quietest, which is farthest from bar, which has least mozzies!

Hi

The east side has the rooms which are less ';tired'; %26amp; are closer to the sea . This side gets less wind than the west %26amp; can get very, very hot! This is also the side where the ';infamous'; pipe runs from %26amp; so has the best snorkeling. However, this is the side that looks at the industrial island %26amp; some rooms are quite close to the bar that the entertainment is in. The west side does have more wind (all the better for drying your wet clothes) %26amp; the sun in the afternoon plus the gorgeous sunsets of course. This is the side where you can, if lucky, see dolphins in the distance! The rooms on this side are a little further from the sea(we are talking a difference of a few feet only). You can also watch the boats trundling to %26amp; fro between Male %26amp; other islands. The rooms to the left (looking out to sea) of the restaurant are very close to the entertainment bar- these are the ones most recently renovated after the tsunami. Those to the left-especially beyond the divecentre jetty- are very quiet- furthest from the bar but still close enough to stagger back to after indulging in all that AI drink! We stayed on this side both times we went to Faru %26amp; never had a problem getting a sunlounger, whatever time of day we decided to sunbathe, whereas on the east side, all the loungers were ';reserved'; quite early on.

Now- groundfloor versus first. The first floor rooms have a tin-type roof which can be very noisy when it rains(and it probably will!)-remember childhood holidays in a caravan? However, these will have the best views, %26amp; some are very close to treetops with roosting fruitbats- wonderful! Groundfloor rooms have a large terrace with an l-shaped stone ';bench'; with comfortable cushions-just right for a siesta. Also, they have the advantage of being able to step off the terrace straight onto the beach (either side of island)

As for mozzies-you%26#39;re probably better off on the windy side %26amp; keep the aircon cold-they don%26#39;t like it!

It%26#39;s not easy to request a room prior to going. We e-mailed both times we went- to no avail, but they did change us to the side we wanted when we checked in-just try to be first in the queue

Sorry- wee typo. Meant to say rooms to the RIGHT -especially after the divecentre jetty- are very quiet.
