Just got back from 2nd time in reethi-love it . trying to book for 2010 -does anyone know how much it costs to use the gym as hubby HAS TO WORKOUT everyday while I snorkel. we%26#39;ve always gone AI but don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth £67 per day. Could we manage to have an evening meal + some water [taking a kettle]and a couple of beers or maybe a cocktail and a trip to gym for less than £67 each? please help someone as I%26#39;m waiting to book.

is the gym free? can we manage on b and b?
Hi Choosy
Always found B%26amp;B to be best if you have a good late hearty breakfast lunch is unnecessary(or at least you have the option)Surely they supply in room kettles? Never known of a charge for a gym on the Maldives as they are so rarely used except by the insane;-))

no kettles in standard villas but found one useful. can%26#39;t help hubby wanting to gym! it%26#39;s the only way i can get him to go and I do want to go back to those lovely fishes.
I%26#39;ll have to e-mail reethi and ask. thanks for reply. Jenny
Hi Choosy,
Given the small amount of alcohol you drink it is worth going B %26amp; B.
We ate in the Moodhu bar most evenings for two with drinks for around $100 it was $60 for two in the main restaurant and the other restaurants were a similar price to the moodhu.
The gym is chargeable at $5 per session or you could purchase a weekly pass, not sure of the cost but it worked out cheaper than the $5 per day had you paid every day.

I had the same dilemma when booking for next year, as the upgrade to AI was over £900 each! I%26#39;ve contented myself with booking B %26amp; B for the time being, because we can always upgrade it later, either with Hayes %26amp; Jarvis or direct with the Island itself. If you are anxious to get booking, you may decide to do the same? I expect I%26#39;ll weaken well before the holiday and go AI (we like a drink or 6!). Never visited the gym, so cannot help with that!!! :-)
hi there, we actually downgraded on our recent visit to reethi as we were not overly impressed with the buffet food and wanted to sample the excellent alternative restaurants on the island - we went from HB to BB and were very happy with this option, even given the cost of the drinks we reckoned we were about even money wise as we do like a couple of beers at lunchtime, cocktails at night and abottle of wine with dinner, but we had the enjoyment of choosing the actual wine we wanted rather than the house on AI and eating out in several different places. If I were to book again I would go B and B. you can always change once there.
How does the downgrading work? Does this apply if you booked through Hayes %26amp; Jarvis and paid weeks in advance? Is it the resort that gives you a refund and do you go through rep in resort?
Hi we managed to spend £600 just over and that included two spa treatments costing $200 and a gym pass for a couple at $55 and a trip to turtle beach x 2. For us half board was the best option. If yoiu have a water vill you get a lavazza coffee machine that does hot water, pods for machine are expensive at $3 each, but nice and tasty. Water is pricey at $4.40 per litre. A cocktail is around $8.60 and coke and spririts work put a little more expensive as a drink.
Have a great time and check our review out

As your not going until next year and who knows what the pound/dollar exchange will be then or what Reethi is likely to charge would it be worthwhile for you to hedge your bets and start buying so many dollars a month now?
For Fifi421 - in reply to your questions about downgrading, we only managed to change our board basis from HB to BB through the rep once there. Beware if anyone is booking through Kuoni that there is no Kuoni rep on the island, only one for Hayes and Jarvis, nor did we ever get to meet the Kuoni rep in the 11 days we were there. All contact was made by phone and she arranged the change in board basis for us.We then received a refund on the package price, around £250, about 2 weeks after our return home - not sure if it was worth it money wise as we probably spent more than this to eat out in the other speciality restaurants for the last 7 days, but we got fantastic food which is what we wanted.
