Hi
Can anyone give me an idea on the Tipping practices in the Maldives (Sun Island Resort is our destination in 2 weeks time) We%26#39;re on an All Inc. deal and unsure how much physical cash $$$%26#39;s to take with us. I%26#39;ve heard that the locals don%26#39;t particularly have the same tipping expectancy that lets say, we%26#39;ve experienced in the US, but I understand that its fair practice. Don%26#39;t want to embarrass ourselves by appearing miserly, but don%26#39;t wish to go overboard either, just %26#39;oil the wheels%26#39; of service.
Any tips on tipping - whether its best to tip at the 鈥榩oint of service鈥?or is it more appropriate or at the end of meal/week/stay etc.
Plus what%26#39;s a fair tip in $%26#39;s (per round of drinks with meals, at the bar, room boy, luggage porter etc.etc.) so that we can relax %26amp; enjoy to the full.
Hope someone can help.
Many Thanks
Andy
Tipping in the Maldives - Whats the score ???
from what i%26#39;ve read its about $2 per suitcase, $10-15 for room boy and waiter at the end of the week and the odd few $s for the bar man during your stay..
Tipping in the Maldives - Whats the score ???
Hi Andy
There are quite alot of posts on this.
If you do a search for tipping you will get all your answers.

Hi Andy,
There is no hard and fast rule as such, and your thread contains all the answers you are likely to get, if that makes sense.
The long standing tradition is to tip once per week to waiter(s) / room boy / Bar staff and anyone who goes out of their way to serve you.
Islands differ in their expectancy levels and what is a good level to one person is not to another (example, one guy I know who went to Meeru tipped the garden sweeper $50 for sweeping the leaves outside his room!!)
Some other people will say tip after each meal?? I personally tip on a weekly basis and the level of service I ahve received has always been excellent - If you are rude then dont expect to be served well etc etc - the following:-
Room Boy $20 / Waiter $20 / Bar staff (either head barman or tip box $10 / Restaurant Cooks $10 / Boat crew $20 (this depends on if you are diving much) and anyone else if they stand out from the crowd.
Hope this helps.

Don%26#39;t worry your little head about it. There are guidelines in your room literature when you get there. We just did what they suggested and got really fab service. Our bar man even used to keep bringing refill beers out to our pitch on the beach, miles away from everyone else (well slight exaggeration perhaps ... many metres anyway!) until we told him we%26#39;d fffinnnishshshshshshsed!
