BAROS- advice appreciated!

Hi,

We are thinking of booking a trip to Baros for our Honeymoon- the board basis is B%26amp;B. Does anyone have an idea of how much spending money we would need to take for meals/drinks etc?

also, what is the dining and snorkelling like on the island?

BAROS- advice appreciated!

Hi there,

We stayed just across the water from Baros at the Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru.

We took a snorkeling safari by boat to Baros and found the trip to be well worth it.

As for the island I know nothing of it but my Uncle went there twice and had a great time.

It may be worth pricing up Vabbinfaru as it is also 5 star but full board, so you pay for drinks only.

Regards

John

BAROS- advice appreciated!

Hi Rebcat

Was in Baros a couple of months ago and it was glorious! We stayed for 11 nights in the water villa in a B%26amp;B basis.

On average we spent about $100-150 per day and that included drinks in the bar.( we didn%26#39;t eat lunch most days as well filled up at brekkie)

We decided to go B%26amp;B basis as we felt it worked out cheaper and gave you more options with regards to resturants, however in reality we ate most nights in the Lime Resturant which would be included if you went Half Board...... The food in all three resturants was amazing and I highly recommend eating in the Lighthouse. Its is pricey but well worth the experience.

Drinks wise you can expect to pay London prices eg $12-14 for a cocktail, $10 for a pint etc (exchange rate does not work in your favour). 2 litre bottles of water were about $6 each but you get at least 2 a day in your villa ( we got more as we hid ours in the chiller!!)

The spa is well worth a visit - we both went three times!! Again you can expect to pay London prices for massages. The most expensive I had was $150 bespoke massage which lasted an hour and half so it works out about right (it was the best masssage I%26#39;ve ever had!) Roughly its $70 per massage per hour.

Hope that helps! If you have any more questions just ask

hi Rebcat - forgot to answer the snorkelling bit!

It was good in places. I%26#39;ll be honest and say it was not as good as the other island we have been to but we still saw some great things. The best time for snorkelling is mid afternoon, the reef is definaltley more colorful and alive at that time. We still saw rays, turutles and sharks but not the big shoals of fish. There are some resident rays ( quite a few) which live in the lagoon around the water bungalows and easy to spot.

We did do the snorkelling trips which I highly recommend ( $30/person). 10 min boat ride right out into the blue and WOW! Saw amazing things including white tips ( several large ones) a huge ray just gliding through the water and a barracuda. There is a resident marine biologist who goes with you and point out all the interesting stuff. She also does night snorkels twice weekly and there is educational talks on sharks and fishes of the malidves twice a week. We went on both occasions and she is clearky highly passionate about conservation and very knowledgeable. There is free hire of snorkel and fins.

Any more q%26#39;s just ask

Went to the Banyan tree vabbinfaru for a week last year and I would absolutely recommend the full board option as not only the meals are extremely varied and elaborated every day ( truly 5* diners served in a stunning environment) and if you don%26#39;t, prices are very high I found.

We only paid for a bottle of wine every night ( not included in the full board) and it was about 拢25-28 for a bottle which quickly adds up, especially if you have a couple of fruit shakes or cocktails after the beach, or want an espresso after lunch etc...

other than that, if you swim out to the reef, it is really amazing. I am a diver so I guess I know what places are deemed good and on this island, I saw more snorkelling than the times when we went diving. Even around the jetty ( on the deep end) there are tons of corals and fish- gorgeous.

Hope you enjoy, it is a truly 5* resort.

Hi,

I am going to Baros in November, and I looked closely at the board options before deciding to go for the B and B choice.

The menus for all the restaurants are available on line (obviously they do change), and the Lime is where the half boarders take their meals, apparently with the full menu to choose from.If you decide to eat elsewhere, you get a credit of 拢12 pp towards that other meal.If you eat elsewhere on more than 2 or 3 occaisions during a 2 week holiday, it works out more expensive to have half board rather than b and b. (This was priced on a half board option of about 拢1,200 for 2 persons for 2 weeks)

Hope that all makes sense.
