Recommendations for Liveaboard Dive BoatsHi,
Totally disagree with above post, yes it was a fatal accident, compare this with the amount of accidents that happen in Egypt! you only have to google dive accidents in the red sea to see that they out number the maldives 10-1, The Maldives is a safe (very safe) diving destination with usually outstanding safety, this isolated case was the put down to the responsability of a 21 year old local who has basically been %26#39;framed%26#39; for the incident.
have a look at the following:-
www.maldivesliveaboards.com/main.php鈥?/a>
liveaboardsmaldives.com/maldives-yassawa.htm
The air at any island resort is left in the capable hands of the locals, this just never happens, comapre the Maldives with Red Sea, Maldives has many more dive outfits than the red sea, ok some come under the same management but even so, this could happen anywhere.

You totally disagree with the post? So you would recommend that particular liveaboard then?
Perhaps the link I used to refer to that incident wasn%26#39;t the best, I certainly wouldn%26#39;t blame any of the local crew, nor was that my intention. The people who are responsible for what happened on that boat are the owners for not making sure the crew were properly trained, not the locals.
The fact that one person died, and several others survived by little more than pure luck make that particular liveaboard pretty unrecommendable in my view.

Hence not recommending it, I agree with what you say and were rightly pointing out this one isolated case!
I also point out that it is isolated, in fact the only case? so i%26#39;m trying to to scare the thread owner (sunvalley) from ever attempting a livaboard, which lets face it does not get much better than the Maldives.
Kind Regards
Emu
%26#39;not%26#39; should have been between i%26#39;m %26amp; trying lol
infact, that livaboard, is probably the safest in the Maldives or Egypt or anywhere right now.
Hi Emu
You%26#39;re absolutely correct, I would say statistically the Maldives must be one of the safest places to dive.
I wasn%26#39;t in any way trying to put sunvalleysarah off diving in Maldives generally, or a liveaboard, which must be a fabulous experience.
cheers

Have you seen the recent post about the Yasawa Princess dive boat?
Here%26#39;s the link..

I had seen the article about the problem on that particular liveaboard and I appreciate the dialogue on the safety record of the Maldives compared to the Red Sea. Anyone know anything about the Eagle Ray? Thanks, SunValleySarah
Hola,
We just came back fro 1 week livaboared on the Eagle Ray - we found it excellent! The two dive masters that we had were terrific: Manik and Asraf. We got all the goodies: Sting Rays, Eagle Rays, Manta Ray, Sharks, Turtles etc, etc. The two dive masters really know what they%26#39;re doing and are very helpful regarding pretty much everything that has to do with diving.
The food on the boat was also very good - it%26#39;s a moderatly priced liveboard so of course the focus is not on food, but the chef really put the effort in and going the extra mile to make the food exciting every day.
We might have had some extra luck, we were only 8 people on the trip.
