I am confused why on many topics about the W Maldives some posters, who do hand out good advice, feel the need to conclude their comments with quite snide quips about ';if you can afford it then you dont need wot worry about the price of drinks/ scuba'; etc. Ok the resort is expensive but it doesn%26#39;t mean everyone visiting is a millionaire! We all still care about what the final bill might look like!
Now for those who have been there before...what is the seaplane journey really like? I am fine on most craft but a little worried about this particular flight...basically, am i likely to need a sick bag? ha ha!
Attitude towards the W retreat %26amp; seaplane question
Hi Dais
No you won%26#39;t want a sick bag. The seaplane trip to your resort over the islands is one of the great delights of the Maldives experience. The take off is smooth they don%26#39;t fly very high and the landing is soft. You will step out on to a small platform in the sea your baggage unloaded and the W launch will come pick you up and take you to the island. You will share the platform with visitors to Kandholhu if there are any and you may well land at Nika and/or Maayafushi as these islands often share the same plane. Make sure you have your camera with you (not in hand baggage as ALL luggage is stored at the back there%26#39;s not room in the seats for it) Just enjoy
Regards
Doug

Here are a couple of links to short video clips that people have taken from the seaplanes in the Maldives. There are quite a few more lenthy videos if you do a search on youtube.com

If you watch someones actual experience it might make you feel a bit more comfortable about the experience. The only problem you will face with the seaplane is that the cabins can get very hot while you are waiting to takeoff. Make sure and bring some light clothes to change into on the plane before you land in Male. Also make an effort if you can to sit up near the front of the seaplane. This lets you watch the pilots which is kind of fun and also gives you better visibility out the front windows. Nothing more beautiful than looking down at the maldives from a seaplane.
This is actually a longer video of seaplane flight. There are several other videos that you can select at this same sight that offer other views from seaplanes and several that have general maldives videos.

This video is quite good. If you watch this one which lasts about 10 minutes you will have ';virtually'; experienced a seaplane transfer almost from start to finish (smiles).
