Hi,
I have some questions regarding maldives vacation.
First some info about me:
I am planning to go on a honeymoon in April 1st week (mostly Apr 4 - Apr 7) to Maldives. I am not a diver (dont even know swimming!). so snorkeling etc is out of question. I dont drink alcohol (neither does my spouse).
activities i would like:
1. para-sailing,
2. Jet-Ski, and
3. banana-boat-ride
(I dont know if this is risky, i never done it. but would like to give it a shot).
Questions:
1. First i dont know which of these activities are available in which islands.
2. I would like to rent one of the %26#39;ocean villa%26#39; kind. so, can you please give suggestions on the resorts i should look for?
3. I heard April is kind of hot in Maldives (as it is summer) and it can be sweaty hot (due to humidity and heat). is that true? is Maldives a bad place to go in April 1st week?
4. I would like to stay within a budget of 1K to 1.5K per night (for a couple). I would like to have an exotic location, so is this too low of a money to expect so much? note that i am already stretching myself with this budget? Should i just go for a cheaper resort with all-inclusive?
5. how much does it cost for food for 4 days/3-nights?
Thank you all
honeymoon in April 1st week? Not sure whether the Maldives is for you. Somebody else will hopefully come up with some suggestions but my experience in the Maldives does not include any resorts that offer the kind of activities that you are asking about. I%26#39;m sure they probably exist someplace. The Maldives is generally a bit more laid back. Hopefully someone else will come up with some suggestions.
honeymoon in April 1st week?I have been told that there is a place called the Palm Beach Maldives that supposedly has the activities you are asking about.

A quick review of the website and the trip advisor reviews confirms that its not a place that I would want to go but for younger folks it seems to be just fine. Primary Italian clients as I understand which again would put it on my dont visit list but if you are looking for a more %26#39;hip%26#39; kind of place it might be worth looking at. Hopefully somebody else will come on in a bit and give you some other ideas.
Just took a look at your post more closely. If you are talking about the first part of April for this year then you need to get going. This is still high season in the Maldives and that part of the month is pretty close to the spring easter holidays in Europe so there may be limited room at the inn in a lot of Maldives resorts. Also I dont know if you realize just how long a trip it is from the west coast of the US to the Maldives (assume you really are in Oregon). Unless the flight situation has improved a lot since I last checked it out for folks you are looking at something like 30 hours of flight time and airport waiting time for most flights to get to Male. Not sure that would be worth four days.
Sorry dont want to be discouraging but I guess I am confused why you want to come to the Maldives. There are an infinite number of closer and cheaper places to go where they love banana boat rides and jet ski noise. The Maldives is really for people who are really into diving/ snorkel fun or just want to kick back and relax.
Royal Island Resort is a possibility

errm.. you do realize that it will take you a good bit over 4 days to get there and back ... for a 4 day stay ?
sorry... the activities you are describing are a nightmare scenario for the maldives .. i see that skibum looked it up and came up with a couple of suggestions but honestly .. with all due respecet .. i would very much suggest the caribbean where you can actually spend 7 full days to make the most of your 8 days off and where you have your pick of resort and all offer those activities... or if you really want more exotic than that .. maybe egypt or tunesia .. at least you%26#39;d get 6 days at location and 2 day travel there.
as for april weather.. every day in the maldives is hot and humid . the only variable is the rain. at the beginning of april , you should have good weather.
your budget is fine .. of course you are looking at multiple flights each way , which will cost you a bundle.
another thing skibum mentioned ... are we talking april of this year ? if you do mean 09 , then you will have to look at what is even bookable and go from that short list . i wouldn%26#39;t imagine there to be a lot of vacancies during high season .. the only savings grace is that you really have no choice but to go to a large , busy island in order to find those activities and they might have openings. the small, romantic islands tend to pride themselves in providing quiet and serenity .
.... i have my booking for april 2010 confirmed , just to give you an idea of how far in advance people book to get the resort of their choice in the maldivian high season ..
good luck and congrats on the upcoming wedding.
First, let me apologize for not giving you the complete information. next, I would like to thank you all for trying to give me advice on the big picture as well (trip from Oregon).
I am from India and am getting married in India. So, i have to face the 24hr flight to India anyway. My marriage will last a week (its a traditional one!). Then, in India, I plan to honeymoon in kerala backwaters (I heard a lot about %26#39;Kumorakam%26#39;). Then, i plan to visit Maldives as it is so close to Kerala (1hr flight). I plan to go to the carribean later in the year (or next) from USA.
My plan is that the budget should include:
1. flights costs between india and maldives,
2. Boarding costs in maldives,
3. any activities in maldives (more on this next),
4. food. Regarding food, i am ok if it is not included as well as long as the resort is a really exotic place and the service is great. Also, i am not planning to look for all-inclusive, as i believe the cost will include alcohol, which neither of us drink.
Activities: since i am only going there for 3 nights, i dont plan to do a lot of water sport activities (besides sex -:)). But, I would like some special experience like I heard the whale watching (closely within feet). I was hoping the para-sailing is available as we can fly high and see the whole island -:)
April timeline: Seems like from your posts april (first week) is a high season. so, i am happy. but also looks like i may be late with the reservations, so i am sad. can you answer my specific question about the temperature and humidity? is it sweaty in the afternoons or all day? how are the mornings, afternoons and evenings in terms of temp/humidity?
I havent looked at the inner-maldives and palmbeach maldives websites yet. i will look at them and reply again.
Thank you all so much
ohh .. we jumped to conclusions , assuming you were leaving from oregon . i still say 4 days in paradise is short .. smiles .
the temperatures stay pretty consistently warm and don%26#39;t cool off all that much in the evening . the humidity is also pretty steadily high but if you get a bit of a breeze, it should be lovely .
you might want to have a look here http://www.meteorology.gov.mv/
whalewatching .. that is new to me. we have on several occasion seen pods of pilotwhales , but that is it .. sorry to not be of help.
being that you are so late to book , i would enlist the help of a knowledgeable travel agent and book hotel only through them .. add your own flight.
what you are looking for is someone who can give you a list of what is available on such short notice and then you work through that short list to find your dream resort .
if i understand you correctly that you are in oregon right now , i might suggest that you could call up/ email a maldive specialist in germany www.maldivian.com
no, i am not getting a bonus from them .. lol .. but i know them to speak english and they actually know the maldives like the palm of their hand . its hard to find that in oregon where most people go ';mal...what?'; :)
going through catalogues looking for resorts might be the harder way and loses you more time as you are much more likley to fall in love with a place that is booked solid . easier to have a list of actual options i think ..
wherever you pick , the maldives are beautiful and you%26#39;ll have a wonderful time
best of luck and congrats
on reflection , you must mean whaleshark ?
they do migrate through the channels and with luck, one is able to snorkel or dive with them or perhaps even just watch them from the boat.
your best bet for whalesharks are the resorts in the south ari atoll , along the channel , like sun island .
sun island is also a large island that is likely to be available for booking. not sure if its what you are envisioning but there are some forum members that can tell you for sure what kind of watersports , etc they offer
Hi
Sun Island, mentioned above, is the largest of the Maldives islands and, by Maldives standards, is very busy and active. I am fairly sure they offer all the activities yopu are looking for.
I have not stayed there myself but a lot of people on this forum have and reports are very good.
The link below is to their website:

I believe you can book direct with the resort but as the others have said, April is high season in the Maldives.
Good luck
