I have read a fair few of the posts but just wanted to ask a question.
My fiancée and I are heading to Rangali in just under two weeks for our Honeymoon. Could anyone advise which restaurants/excursions need to be booked before hand (if any).
Any help would be appreciated.
Honeymoon - Quick Question
Dear ajh28,
If you are going there for your honeymoon, I would strongly suggest doing the Dream Island Excursion. You will definitely have to book that, 14 prior to your arrival. It is a wonderful experience and well worth doing (very romantic). Ask for the afternoon one, so you can enjoy the sunset while cruising back to Rangali and if your lucky, you can even see the dolphins. Don%26#39;t forget to bring you snorkeling gear and an insect repellent!
Other excursions such as snorkeling trips can be booked upon arrival. I guess it also depends on how long you are staying in Rangali. An upcoming excursion might be full but the following one will not. Your Island host should be able to help you with that. The Sunrises Snorkeling trip is said to be excellent (I%26#39;ve never managed to do it due to bad weather).
Unless you are picky about a specific time, Spa treatments can also be booked upon arrival (they always try their best to fit you in). If you are using the little voucher/promo that they give you at the airport lounge, make sure to book that as soon as you get to Rangali.
In general, all special meals such as Ithaa, Private BBQ, Lobster and champagne BBQ,.. have to be booked early. Normal dinners at Sunset Grill, Vilu can be booked upon arrival at the Resort.
I would advise you to take a look at the dinning and excursion list, pick out the ones you absolutely would like to do. Book those for the beginning of your stay and leave the rest of your week free (I personally think people tend to over book their stay at Rangali). You can always add last minute excursions if you like.
Regards Pitch
Honeymoon - Quick Question
Hi ajh28
We went to Rangali last October for our honeymoon. It is absolutely fantastic there and I am sure you will have the time of your life. We loved the Maldives so much we are going back in June - but to the four star Olhuveli resort. Even so we still can%26#39;t wait and want to try diving this time.
We didn%26#39;t book any trips or restaurants before we went. We wanted to get there and then decide, and we had no problems. However, two of the trips we booked were cancelled because not enough people booked to go to make it worth their while. A bit disappointing but it didn%26#39;t spoil anything.
Some tips on restaurants (although I appreciate everyone is different). We went to the underwater restaurant for dinner one evening and, whilst it was a great experience, it wasn%26#39;t worth the money. We paid over $700 for the set menu and a bottle of wine. We saw the resident manta ray gliding around the top of the restaurant but by this stage of our holiday we%26#39;d seen a few. We both loved the snorkelling there and had seen a few turtles and a reef shark and even got caught up in a shoal of hundreds of fish (all electric blue - never did found out what they were). Sooo, if I were you I%26#39;d save the money and perhaps go there for a cocktail during the day.
We ate at Vilu restaurant and REALLY enjoyed the set menu there - highly recommended. They bring you a different class of wine to go with each of the five courses and the waiter explains where the wine has come from, how the grapes are grown and why it complements the dish.
We also enjoyed the Sunset(seafood restaurant, but you can get steak etc) and found it to be really good value for money if you didn%26#39;t order a bottle of wine and just had a couple of glasses instead. We ate at Atoll Market two nights (they encourage you to eat there on your first night). The first night was good with lots to choose from - the curries were amazing, but we didn%26#39;t enjoy it on Maldivian night (I think this was on the Saturday). Maybe we%26#39;d been spoilt at the restaurants!
As the previous poster said, if you do leave the island remember to take mosquito repellent. The stronger the better. We went on the island hopping trip and after spending a couple of hours on the deserted island, we had a good number of bites. They don%26#39;t usually bother me so they must have been hungry! You%26#39;ll be OK on Rangali because they smoke the island.
Any other tips? You probably know not to bother taking towels, dressing gowns, beach bags or even flip flops - they provide them all. My husband didn%26#39;t wear anything on his feet the whole time we were there, apart from flippers.
You%26#39;ve chosen one of the best places on the planet to have your honeymoon - enjoy!
