wot r house reefs.
house reefsHi Jollyjack,
A house reef is the reef that can be accessed, from the beach for snorkeling and getting out to the drop of into the blue, through the lagoon or not. Some islands dont have them and to get to the nearest reef / drop off they lay on boats for snorkeling.
Rumps
house reefsjacable,
no need for that --we all have questions and have to learn thats what the forum is about.
Rumpole
Thanks rumpole.
Jollyjack / Rumps,
Every island has a house reef, otherwise it would be floating in the sea.
The word Rumps is looking for is %26#39;accessible%26#39; House reef to explain his terminology of a house reef.
If snorkelling %26amp; diving are important to your trip to the Maldives then you want an island with an accessible house reef, this will usually have passage ways from the beach out of the lagoon and into the %26#39;atoll%26#39; which the island is in.
Snorkelling over the edge of the reef means that you are floating in deep water looking at the reef below and are able to see the curve of the island from the sea bed, to the surface.

Apparently Summer Island doesnt have a House Reef, the even say this on their own website.

Zoom out on this and you will see the tide breaking against the reef!
What they mean is it does not have an accessible reef.
This could end up a long and painful explanation of reefs ;-) (smiles).

Classic example of un-accessible house reef is %26#39;kandooma%26#39; zoom out and you will also see Cocoa / Biyadhoo %26amp; Vilivaru islands the last two with very good accessible house reefs.
Also the diving in the channels around Kandooma %26amp; cocoa is very very good.
Hope this helps explain a bit better?

Emu
