Maldives are not for everybody

tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g608516-d317…

After i read the review from Vickyjo and some other negative reviews i%26#39;m sure that Maldives are not for eveeryone.

Bigger problem in curamathi was the rain.I can%26#39;t believe it.Rain in a tropic island? How did it happen? All these trees should grow up just with sun.

Dead fish in an island full of fishes? It didn%26#39;t find the way to the cemetery.

Bugs in the tropics is unacceptable. They should spray every hour the island because i can%26#39;t live without CO2 that reminds me my city.

Corals in front of the beach?Take them away.If you don%26#39;t i will break them all.I hope she is not a diver.

Please people. Before you travel to Maldives ask someone who was there. If you don%26#39;t like what you hear go somewhere else and don%26#39;t destroy them.

Maldives are not for everybody

What it does highlight is people%26#39;s expectation are different and failing to do proper research will lead to disappointment. But I must admit it does make me smile when people complain about rain ( the dry season just means there is less likelyhood of rain not none at all) coral on the beach, might have something to do with tides and as for bugs when you are visiting a tropical place am not sure what the answer is. However it does raise the question what were they were expecting when they booked , this is not having a go at people who write these things but that sometimes peoples expectations when visiting tropical places can be unrealistic.

Maldives are not for everybody

Since you PMd me to make me aware of this post I think you are trying to incite a response, making an issue however if you actually read the review properly you would see that I didn%26#39;t cmplain about the rain, I said that that the island was ill equipt for it and yes, considering it%26#39;s a tropical island I would expect them to make provisions for it. I also said that the fish should have been cleared, I have been other places where this has been the case and it%26#39;s what i%26#39;d expect from this standard of resort rather than sit and eat my bar snacks next to at least 30 rotting fish. I also pointed out the issue of coral to warn others to stick to the paths so that they didn%26#39;t hurt and scar themselves like I did. I saw plenty of people who came unstuck on the coral and it%26#39;s not pleasant nor good for the coral. And yes, I do dive.

I fully researched the Maldives before I left but I felt that the island banked on the fact that it was a %26#39;Maldives%26#39; island rather than providing service. I have been to other similar places, less and more expensive and thay have all provided better service and been kept better.

I%26#39;m sorry that I don%26#39;t fit your idea and i%26#39;m glad that you obviously enjoy the Maldives, well, I assume, since you have not provided any reviews yourself.

I don%26#39;t understand why you should belong to a unbiased site that requests personal opinions and then try to discredit them.

I felt it was a good and honestly felt review, and clearly by someone who was trying to give a balanced and fair view. Yes, some people may have unrealistic expectations and a little dose of reality does not hurt - especially with regards to the effects of lots of rain on drainage and debris; and effect of being unfortunate with staff experinece which by far are graet but hey, not everyone is always happy and smiley and yes, that woudl impact on how I feel about a place too; afterall reviews are subjective and that%26#39;s why it is worth reading these - to hear about what peopel found disappointing too, and then you can make up your own mind; if you are looking for someone sinply gushing about everything just stick to the brochures; it does not mean everyone will agree or feel the same way about their holiday; I remember reading a review from a couple who I recognised as having been guests same time as us on Komandoo and they had quite a different perspective and experience.

Just goes to show that where reviews include criticisms some people will mark them %26#39;unhelpful%26#39;, whereby surly teh opposite is the case.

Hi Vickyjo,

The main thing is that the review was from the heart! and it obviously was how you experienced it, this does highlight that not all islands in the Maldives are what they make themselves out to be! I guess that you were partly unlucky with choice of island and probably being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

I also guess that you went in the first couple of weeks of Decemeber? this time of year is actually the change over period from SW to NE monsoon and can quite often be a washout! as you found out unfortunately.

All I will say is that I find that smaller islands do tend to give better service etc and all round expectation of what the Maldives really is about!

Oh and thanks for sharing your review..after all we are all entitled so tell it how it is, even if not everyone wants to hear it.

Regards

Emu

I actually found the review quite interesting! I too would want to avoid an island where they fail to clear up broken glass! Doesn%26#39;t m,atter what you%26#39;re paying, that is just dangerous!

Furthermore, I do understand what she means about everything looking dirty in the rain. It cannot be helped but if your entire stay is a washout you definitely miss out on seeing the island at its best!

There was also no suggestion that the coral should be removed! the poster was merely drawing attention the the risks of getting caught on it! This can happen to anyone (especially the inexperienced).

Cant help but feel your picking on this one review is antagonistic, surely everyone is entitled to their own opinion based on their OWN experience!!

Vickyjo- thanks for the honest review.

i often look for the worst reviews about an island and then i read between the lines .. and some of those reviewers are really out in left field .. complaints that an outdoors bath is dangerous .. that restaurants should always be closed off all around for ';food safety';, wild bats are unacceptable , etc , etc ..

this particular reviewer , however comes across to me as disappointed but honest . i would suggest that she made two mistakes that could have been avoided with a bit more research.. a smaller island would have been a lot prettier, more romantic and not have given her the ';poor relative'; feeling... well.. and while it can rain anytime, early december is a particularly risky time for weather of course.

i have to commend her for realizing that she had broken coral and felt bad for that and even warned others from the same mistake. most of our fellow ';walking on the reef-ers'; are much less insightful.

overall , the reviewer sounds like a lovely and sincere person to me .. i am sort of envisioning a ';bridget jones'; and i am saying that in the most positive sense and with a smile. hoping that she won%26#39;t be discouraged from revisiting .. perhaps next time a bit less of a budget island and somewhere a bit more special . (or if the budget remains tight , even a very low cost place like biyadhoo sounds miles better to me)
