what island ? help !

hi, can anyone help, been trawling through all the islands reviews and forums on t.a. and dont have any idea where to go being a first time visitor, my wife and i are celebrating our 25th wedding in april and hope to go to the maldives, we hope to find an island not to far away from the airport, but we are looking for an island not too big, with a beach villa, a great beach, and an area where it is safe to swim , nice locals, with good and varied food and not to expensive when you get there, i%26#39;m maybe asking for too much but would greatly appreciate any feedback you can give, thanks

what island ? help !

all islands pretty much offer beach villas ,great beach , safe swimming, nice locals , good food ... all of them are a bit expensive once you get there and you will find that even ';AI'; has lots of exceptions.

if we are talking april of this year , i would find out what is available for booking and then go from there. the small islands fill up fast for the high season.

if you want to stay in the north male atoll , i might be looking at ihuru or makunudu

what island ? help !

thanks for your kind reply spammie, i shall look at whats availabe, you say most of the islands are pretty good, are there any that should be avoided, thanks,

mark

as a rule of thumb , all maldive islands are really quite wonderful .

i couldn%26#39;t think of any that should be avoided on principle but everyone has different expectations and preferences.

its just important that you match up the island with what your priorities will be .

for example .. if you are looking for absolute peace, you want a smaller island in a far away atoll. but if you seek lots of entertainment options, then a large island will suit you better.

the better the fit between island and expectations , the closer you will be to finding your dream island . but for a first visit , they are all beautiful and you can do little wrong .

once you zero in on a few options , just come back here and we can help you decide .

pictures to almost all islands are here http://www.malediven.net/Bilder/index.htm

Agree with Spammie.

Here is another site that you might want to take a look at.

http://www.mal-dives.com/

If you click on the Tab at the top of the page labeled ';RESORTS %26amp; HOTELS'; it will bring up a pull down menu. Click on ';RESORTS LIST A-Z';

That brings up a list of resorts. You can sort this list based on a number of criteria (Star Rating, Price, Distance from Male etc).

If you click on an individual resort it will bring up a page that gives you information about the resort. Its a decent tool for finding out some info quickly about a lot of different resorts.

As Spammie was saying... if you intend to go this April I would check with a good travel agent and try and find out places that actually still have available rooms as April is still part of the High Season and smaller resorts fill up. But this site might give you some place to start so that you can have some possible choices for the travel agent to check on.

thanks skibum49 and spammie again,I will check out your threads, i have tried availability for makunudu but we are out of luck for our dates, i would say that a quiet island is what we are after, so although first impressions for us were to be close to airport its interesting that spammie%26#39;s observations about the quieter islands being the further afield ones, so that gives us something else to go on. We are basically looking for nice beach , calm waters to swim and snorkel, good food and a quiet bar for a nightcap. we shall try your threats, thanks again, mark
