Hi
Ive narrowed our selection down to these 2 - any views?
Angaga is a direct flight via Thompson, Angsana indirect via Dubai
Price - about £5500 for 2 FB at Angsana, £4500 AI at Angaga 14 nights
We want good food and good snorkelling
(looked at Mirihi but £7k FB put it out of our range)
Angaga or Angsana Ihuru
I%26#39;ve booked Mirihi and looked at these two when researching my choice. I%26#39;ve not been to either and I think both would be good but my impression was Angsana is a class above Angaga in quality of accommodation/food and snorkelling. I%26#39;m sure Emu72 will advise re Angsana.
Angaga or Angsana Ihuru
Hi -
I think definately Angsana, and also the Emirates(?) flight, via Dubai, is way better than your charter direct flight.
I prefer to do two shorter flights, as opposed to the 11 - 12 hour long haul.
Angsana has one of the best reefs.
;-b
it really depends what you are looking for .. Ihuru is more luxurious .
both are beautiful islands .. the dive sites are better around Angaga and for some strange reason, ihuru seems to offer only morning dives , which could be devastating for a keen diver.
snorkeling is very, very good at Angaga , good at Ihuru.
it is possible to walk all around Angaga , not Ihuru .
Angaga offers the spectacular airtaxi transport , Ihuru is speedboat only
there is more boat traffic around Ihuru because of its close proximity to male and other resort islands .. that includes large , commercial vessels.
Angaga offers more secluded maldive island feeling.
Ihuru seems to have lots of issues with erosion, so be prepared to view some sandbags .. but most islands can%26#39;t avoid that from time to time.
if you are going for value for money , then Ihuru loses pretty big and Angaga comes out the shining star. but nonetheless , Ihuru is more ';stylish and chic'; , where Angaga is more casual and basic.
my personal choice between those two is Angaga. the dive sites are important to me. i also prefer the casual athmosphere and the male atoll is too busy for me. i like to be ';far away from everything'; and Ihuru%26#39;s modern rooms with lots of squares and green walls are simply not to my taste - in NYC i%26#39;d like the style .. in the maldives i want something more .. hm.. natural? but that%26#39;s just me and i never claimed to have good taste :)
if you can squeeze out a bit more money , mirihi is a dream island and has been our ';home base'; for years now. (its also right next to angaga)
Spammie,
Which of Angsana, Mirihi and Angaga has the best house reef in your view? Is it possible to email Mirihi and ask for a particular Water villa and if so which ones do you recommend the straight line or the semi%26#39;s.
Thanks
pipling
pipling .. the mirihi housereef is by far the best , in my opinion .. followed by angaga , then ihuru . none is ';bad'; .. just mirihi is really, really good.
on mirihi , you can call Anthony , the reservations manager and ask him to try and give you a bungalow in your area of preference .. like , tell him you want straight line or the highest possible number , etc.. he won%26#39;t promise but he%26#39;ll try .
we have been in the straight line and loved it .. but we are divers and don%26#39;t snorkel too much. at low tide, you have to go around to reach the housereef from the straight number bungalows because the water will be too shallow to swim across the reeftop.
currently our favorites are about number 21 - 28 for greatest privacy.
easiest access for snorkeling is from the highest number waterbungalows .. 36, 35, 34 ...etc where the water is deepest and the reef is practically right under your stairs .
Thanks for the response Spammie. Like Wid I think I%26#39;ll explode soon but I%26#39;ve got 10 weeks to go! You obviously finally managed to get a booking. When are you going?
I would agree with Spammie about the Mirihi house reef quality. As for water bungalows nothing is bad except 20 (avoid 20). I say that because the sundeck is visible on 20 from the beach and the access deck going out to the semi circle water bungalows. If privacy is not a big issue for you then 20 is ok also. Generally speaking the depth of the water increases as you go around the semi circle bungalows. 34-35-36 etc having easier access to the water/reef for snorkel fun than 21-22-23. Straight line and lower number semi circle get after noon sun but not so much morning sun. Higher number semi circle just the opposite... good morning sun not so good in the after noon. Higher numbers have better sunrise visibility and poorer sunsets. The other problem with the higher number water bungalows it that you see more boat traffic going by and more guests swimming by your sun deck so privacy is not as good. We like 25 as a good compromise.
